Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Johanna Bye, a pioneer settler of Sletten Township, who passed away at the home of her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Satran here the preceding Thursday.
The services were conducted from the Carlin Funeral Home and from Bethel Lutheran Church in Sletten township with the Rev. E. B. Holte officiating.
Pallbearers were Osmond Rustad, Ole Opgrand, Adolph Horvig, Henry Balstad, Thor Heglund and Cornell Olson.
Among the relatives from a distance who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cook, Donald and Joan of Osseo, Henry Bye of Osseo, Mrs. Russell Munson and daughters of Wahpeton and Amelia Iverson of Winger.
Johanna Bye was born May 9, 1862 at Sogen, Norway to parents Hans and Anna Hanson.
She came to America with her mother and two brothers at the age of eight and settled in Fillmore county.
When she was nine years of age, her mother passed away and she made her home with her uncle, John Iverson. After confirmation she went with the Iverson family to Grafton, North Dakota. Here she worked for several years.
She took a homestead in Sletten township when the Thirteen Twwn was opened for settlement.
She was married in 1887 to Ole J. Bye who preceded her in death in 1934.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Albert Satran (Thea), Mrs. Hans Kildal (Annie), Fosston; Mrs. Henry Cook (Josie), Osseo, Minnesota; and Mrs. Rollin Anderson (Elsie), Sterling, Utah; three sons, Oscar and John at home, and Henry Bye of Osseo; also 16 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
