Mary Amanda, daughter of Knud and Kristen Rasmussen, was born March 12, 1876 in Shealand, Denmark. She died at the Salem Invalid's Home at Elk Horn, Shelby county, Iowa on March 1, 1955 at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 17 days.
She came to this country at the age of 15 with her parents, to join a sister and two brothers who had come earlier. They settled in Audubon county, Iowa.
She was married to Peter Christensen September 3, 1895 and they continued to live in Audubon county on the home place. she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Denmark.
She is survived by eight children, one brother, 32 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
The children are four daughters, Mrs Florence Christensen and Mrs Clifford Gardner of Harlan; Mrs Alfred Petersen of Audubon; and Mrs Eva Munyon of South Bend, Indiana, four sons, Martinus and Leonard of Harlan; Elmer of Kimballton and Alfred of Audubon.
The brother, Valdimar Rasmussen, lived in Omaha. Her husband parents, a sister and two brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held March 4 at the Kimballton Lutheran church with the Rev. Holger Strandskov and the Rev. Anders Hansen in charge. Burial was at the Kimballton Lutheran cemetery. The Jensen Funeral home was in charge.
