Cora Virginia Beard was the daughter of Hugh S. & M. Letitia. Source of burial here: Rockbridge County, Virginia Cemeteries, South River and Walker Creek Districts, by the Rockbridge Area Genealogical Society, 1999, page 163.

"Death ot Miss Cora Beard. A dispatch from Charlottesville of the 11th gives the following report of the death of Miss Cora Beard while in attendance upon the Summer School. Miss Cora Beard, a school teacher at Brownsburg, Rockbridge county, died at 8 o'clock this morning at the
University of Virginia Hospital. The body was sent this afternoon to Staunton, and tomorrow morning will be taken on to Raphine for interment. Miss Beard, in company with her sister, Miss Eglatine, came to Charlottesville about three weeks ago with tho intention of attending the University Summer School. The day after her arrival she was taken ill and was removed at once to the hospital. This week her condition became serious and the members of her family were summoned. Her mother, brother and sister were present when the end came. Miss Beard is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Beard ; two sisters and one brother. She was about twenty-four years of age." "DEATHS DURING THE WEEK. MISS CORA BEARD. Miss Cora Beard, one of the best known lady teachers of Rockbridge, whose home is near Raphihe, and who went to the University to attend the Summer Schools of Methods, and who was taken ill with fever soon after her arrival, died at the University hospital on Sunday. She is widely related both in this aud Rockbridge county, and her untimely death will be regretted by a host of friends. Her sister, Miss Estie went to Charlottesville as soon as she heard of her illness, and did all she could to make her comfortable. The remains reached here Sunday night, en-route to Raphine, and the funeral took place Monday from New Providence." Published in the Staunton Spectator and Vindicator, Vol 88, #29, dated 16 Jul 1909.
