The Reverend Thomas Dabney Wellford, age 81, of Warsaw, died on Sunday, April 23, 2000. Reverend Wellford was born on January 3, 1919, to Armistead Nelson and Katherine Davis Wellford, and was the widower of Harriet Montague Wellford.

He was a graduate of Episcopal High School and the University of Virginia, Phi Beta Kappa and attended Harvard Graduate School.

He served in the United States Army in World War 11 with the Stars and Stripes. He was graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree.

Reverend Wellford served as assistant minister at Falls Church Episcopal Church from 1952 - 1954 and was the founding Rector of Saint Patricks from 1954 - 1958. He served Saint John's and North Farnham Episcopal Churches from 1958 - 1985.

Following retirement he was Rector Emeritus of both parishes. He was a member and Warden of the Order of Saint Luke and served as chaplain, of Camp 17, Warsaw.

Surviving are two sons, Cary M. and Thomas D. Wellford, Jr.; daughter -in-law Carroll H.; three grandchildren, Alison C., Cary M., and Kendall E. Wellford.

A funeral service was held April 27, at Saint John's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Charles S. Cook, Jr. officiating. Pallbearers were Dabney Lewis, Sheperd Lewis, Ryvers Wright, Morgan Wright, Robert Seiler, Jr., George Vest, Jr., Jerome Ware, and Robert Carter Wellford, IV. The family received friends on April 26, in Wellford Hall at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Warsaw.
