PEORIA - Lucille Ella Herman, 91, of Peoria, formerly of Washington, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Apostolic Christian Skylines where she had resided for 28 years.

She was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Hoopeston to Andrew and Louisa (Otto) Hoffmann. She married Joseph William Herman on Sept. 23, 1945, in Cissna Park. He preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1994.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her children, Stan (Judy) Herman of Palatine, Lin Herman of Washington, Roger (Susi) Herman of Peoria, Steve (Vickie) Herman of Washington, Myrna (Bob) Hoerr of East Peoria and Joe Herman Jr. of Ramah, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Herman of Eureka and Helen Hoffmann of Roanoke.

Lucille was a mother and homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an active volunteer and employee at her Apostolic Christian Skylines residence, working in the laundry department for more than 27 years.

She was an expert quilter known for her amazing proficiency and detailed workmanship. Her quilting talents were featured in a 2006 article in the Peoria Journal Star. Many family members and friends were the beneficiaries of her handiwork over the years.

Lucille gave her heart to the Lord in 1937 at the age of 16 and served Him faithfully for more than 75 years. She had a gentle, loving, active and curious spirit, always wanting to be involved in everything that was going around her. She was a wonderful example of Godly faithfulness and dedication to her family and friends and she will be deeply missed.

Lucille was a faithful and contributive member of the Washington Apostolic Christian Church, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday at her church. Burial will be in the Washington Apostolic Christian Cemetery next to her husband.
