Pyte Canada was the daughter of John Henry and Elisha "Lisha" Maynard Lowe, and granddaughter of Fountain Bird, Sr., and Judy Staton Lowe, and Jarad and Martha Tunmire Maynard. Her mother and her father died when Pyte was a very young child. There is no surviving 1890 census, but the 1900 census shows her as being 12 years old and living with her maternal grandparents, Jarrett and Martha Ann Turnmire Maynard. On March 12, 1903, she married Sam Canada, son of Thomas and Sally Canada. Their children were Thomas, John, Gladys, Eunice, Ora, Stella, Emma Hattie, Ollie, Sallie, Dewey, Allie, and Lucy. The 1930 census lists her age as 32. From these census records, she would have been born in 1888.
