Jimmie Morris Abernathy was born in Hickory, North Carolina, to Mable Louise Atkinson Morris and Ervin D. Morris, on April 11, 1925.
She grew up in Florida, then married Dean Judson Abernathy, Sr., her lifelong partner (upon his death in April 2011, they had been married almost 65 years), following World War II. She was always a very involved and active person, serving alongside her husband in ministry in Texas, Florida, and North Carolina. After starting Furman University, she had three children and served faithfully as pastor's wife. When her youngest child was in college, she completed her degree at the University of Central Florida and then taught school for many wonderful years. She loved the mountains of North Carolina, especially Ridgecrest, and enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.
She was the mother of three children, Jeanne Burns, Dean Abernathy, Jr., and Morris Abernathy; grandmother of six; and great-grandmother of four.
She was dearly loved and will be missed, but her legacy is great and her family will honor her heritage.
