Earl Fredenburg 1892-1992

Earl Clayton Fredenburg, 99, of rural Solway, died on Tuesday, February 18, 1992, at his home.
He was born April 1, 1892, at Sauk Center, Minnesota to Herbert and Lucretia Derby Fredenburgh. In 1897, Earl and his parents loaded their personal belongings into a covered wagon, and with a cow behind, pointed their team northward to a timbered promise land. They homesteaded the place where Earl has lived all his life. He lived in the same house he and his dad built in 1906 until his death.
He attended the Moose Creek School at Moose Corners, south of Shevlin. Earl was the oldest living resident of Jones Township, Beltrami County.
He married Bertrude Pitsenburger on August 14, 1910. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in a special celebration on August 18, 1985. Gertie died October 21, 1989.
Earl was a logger in his early days. He also played at dances with his dad. Earl played the violin up to only a few weeks before his passing. He wrote poems and made up songs about his friends. He was a farmer and drove the tractor and combine up to 95 years of age. He was also a school bus driver from 1932 to 1946 for School District #26 which was later known as District #31.
Survivors include on e daughter, Louise (Mrs. Art) Johnson of Bemidji; two sons, Lyle and Donald, both of rural Solway; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie; three sisters and one brother.
His funeral was held Friday, February 21, 1992, at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley. The Rev. Mark Sawyer officiated and burial was in the Moose Creek Cemetery south of Shevlin.
Honorary casket bearers were Ferdie Neft, Roger Lewis, Morris DeVries, Millerd Tollefson, Russell Stordahl and Lorn Fredenburg.
Active casket bearers were Bennie Sorom, Rollie Lewis, Richard Sand, Oscar Skogan, Jack McNamara and Carl Christofferson.
