Sp4 Carson Leo Whaley Jr, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Richlands, North Carolina.

Specialist Four Carson Leo Whaley Jr was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP4 Whaley served our country until August 25th, 1967 in Quang Tin, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that Carson died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. Carson was born on October 20th, 1946 in Richlands, North Carolina. SP4 Whaley is on panel 25E, line 045 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. PFC Carson Whaley served our country for one year.

Funeral Services for Specialist 4 Carson Leo Whaley Jr, who died in Vietnam August 23, will be held Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Richlands at 3pm by the Reverend B. Stephenson. Burial with full Military honors will follow in the Whaley family cemetery. Survivors include his mother, Mrs Glennie Lee Whaley, the late Carson Leo Whaley Sr, four sisters; Mrs Elizabeth Van Winkle, Mrs Linda Griffin, Miss Rebecca Whaley and Miss Patricia Whaley of Richlands; four brothers; Rodney of Jacksonville,, Willie Ray, Michael Lee and Clifton Forest of Richlands; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs Net Hill of Pollocksville.

He served with Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, "Geronimo", 101st Airborne Division, "Screaming Eagles", USARV.

He was the son of the late Mr Carson Leo Whaley Sr and Mrs Glennis H Whaley, 323 Cooper Street, Richlands, NC. He is buried along with his Father who was a Decorated WWII Veteran in the same Cemetery.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
