BRANDON - Funeral services for Chief Warrant Officer John Churchill Bacon, 69, USN, retired, who died Sunday evening at his residence in Brandon will be held on Thursday at 2 pm at St Thomas Episcopal Church in Brandon.

The Rev Arthur Parker, Rector, will officiate. Cremation will take place on Friday at the Oakwood Crematory in Troy NY. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.

Mr Bacon was born on Jan 3 1910 in Providence, RI, son of George J and Daisy (Churchill) Bacon. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving with the US Navy. He was awarded the Bronze Star while serving in salvage boat operations at Inchon, Korea.

He retired from the Navy in 1958 and started working for General Dynamics Quality Control in San Diego, CA. He retired from General Dynamics Electric Boat Operations in Groton, CT in Jan of 1975. He moved to Brandon in 1977. Mr Bacon was a life member of the VFW Post 1265 in Pawcatuck, CT. He was a former member of the Mystic Fire and Police Dept in Mystic, CT. He was an active member of St Paul's Masonic Lodge 25 F & AM in Brandon. He was a member of the National Sojourners Association. Mr Bacon served on the Board of Directors for the Brandon Senior Citizens. He was a member of St Thomas Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife Gwendolyn D Bacon of Brandon; a daughter, Mrs Hollace B Guiliant of Oakland, CA; a son, Quentin B Bacon of Hayward, CA; two step-sons, Martin J Thompson and Kjell W Thompson, both of Brandon; five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Miller and Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon on Wed from 7 to 9 pm. Masonic services will be conducted by members of St Paul's Lodge Wed at 8 pm. Military honors will be presented by members of the Brandon American Legion Post 55.

Memorial contributions may be made to St Thomas Episcopal Church Restoration Fund or to the Brandon Area Rescue Squad.
