Paul Allen Moore, 84, of Pepperstone Drive, died on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at his home. Born in Belmont, MS, on February 24, 1925, he was the son of the late James William and Zula Moore. Mr. Moore retired from the US Army in 1964 as a 1st Sgt. after serving our country for 23 years. He served in WW II in the 36th Texas Division. He fought in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was highly decorated receiving a Purple Heart with one OLC, a Bronze Star and a Bronze Indian Arrowhead. He served in Japan during its occupation. His last tour of duty was Camp Machinato, Okinawa. Mr. Moore was an active member of Green Meadows Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon. His wife of 48 years, Dorothy Mae Dehart Moore, preceded him in death on March 24, 2009.
Mr. Moore is survived by a son, Timothy Moore of Cookeville, TN; 3 daughters, Diane Crowley of Independence, MO, Linda (Jim) Pullen of Falls Church, VA and Faye (James) Hutchins of Mocksville; 5 grandchildren, Denise (Bill) McConnell of Marbury, MD, Patty Pullen of Winchester, VA, Wendy (Tim) King and Jay (Lori) Hutchins of Mocksville and Dean Moore of Fremont, NE and 4 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Moore was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Albert Lee "Bud" Moore and Travis Moore and a sister, Audrey Gardner.
The service to celebrate Mr. Moore's life was held on Saturday, August 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Green Meadows Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Waters officiating. He will lay in state for 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. Burial was in the church cemetery with full military honors accorded by the US Army 20th Engineer Brigade from Fort Bragg. The familyreceived friends on Friday, August 14, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service.
For those who prefer, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Davie and Forsyth Counties or Green Meadows Baptist Church.
