Joe Moreno Acosta, 77, died April 28 in Silver City. Mr. Acosta was born in Santa Rita and was a lifelong resident of Grant County. He was a communicant of the Catholic Church. Mr. Acosta is survived by two daughters, Corinne Rivera of Silver City and Belinda Acosta of Tucson, Az; three sons, George J. and Fred Acosta of Silver City and Pvt. Joe Acosta of Fort Leonardwood, Missouri; one brother, Fred Acosta; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. Rosary recitation was held May 1 at the Wheeler Funeral Home Chapel and Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated May 2 at the St. Francis Newman Center with Rev. Robert Getz officiating both services. Interment followed at the Silver City Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Luciano Montes, David Valles, Cipriano Ogas, Edward Mendoza, Ernest Jacquez and Manuel Acosta. Honorary pallbearers were Maxie Trujillo, Tony Jacquez, Frank Saliaz and Paul Mitchell. Arrangements by the Wheeler Funeral Home of Silver City.
