ARNOLD, Rita Doris - New Glasgow. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rita Doris (Betts) Arnold, 57, of 307 Frederick St., New Glasgow. Rita passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 21, 2005, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Gertrude Alma (Pitts) and Sidney Russell Betts. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and was actively involved in the C.W.L., folk choir, and Intercessory Prayer Group, Ultreya, Crusillo, and enjoyed going on retreats at the convent in Pictou. She worked for several years for Pidgeon's Auctions. Left to mourn is her husband of 35 years, Robert (Joe) Arnold; daughter, Marion, at home; son, John (Lisa), Trenton; grandchildren, Brennen, Jachai, Damek, Luke, and Emma; sisters, Sylvia (Raymond) Gregory, Pictou; Virginia (Bill) Mombourquette, Carolyn Betts, Theresa (Steve) Farrell, all of New Glasgow, and Julia Freeman (Kevin), Westville; brothers, Stanley (Bonnie), Porters Lake; Sid (Dorothy), Mountville, and Johnny, New Glasgow; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, aunts and numerous cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, paternal grandparents, several siblings in infancy, a granddaughter, Abigail Rose, and great-nephew, Hayden. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A celebration of Rita's life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Bill Burke officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Building Fund.
