SPRING STEAD Funeral services for Paul Arviso, 86, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, at Rollie Mortuary. Burial will be in family plot, Rio Lobo Canyon, Chest Nut Canyon Road.

Arviso died Sept. 29, 2010, in Gallup. He was born April 14, 1923, in Spring Stead, into the Black Streak of Forest People Clan for the Zuni People Clan.

Arviso attended Wingate High School. He retired with BIA Federal Building, Gallup and various other employment with Railroad, Wingate Ordiance Depot, Colorado Springs, steel mills, and rancher with Deer Trails, Colo. Arviso was drafted on Dec. 23, 1942 to 1946. He was a World War II Veteran in the US Army and received various awards.

Survivors include his wife, Cecilia B. Arviso; sons, Kee Yazzie of Pinedale, James Yazzie of Acomita, Stanson Yazzie of Oregon; daughters, Mamie Yazzie of Gallup, Nancy Dodson of Gallup, Celia Yazzie of Pinedale; brothers, William Arviso, Johnny H. Arviso, Jimmie H. Arviso, all of Springstead; sisters, Wilhemina Yazzie, Maria Johnson, Janice A. Bennett, all of Springsted; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

Arviso was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Nonabath Arviso; brothers, John Arviso, Bennie Arviso, John King; sisters, Grace Cupp, Elsie James, Elizabeth Gray, Edith Anderson; grandfather, Jesus Arviso.
