Anton Jilg was born 18 December 1838 in Pirnik, Mahren, Austria, to Florian Zohner and Anna Theresia Winkler Jilg. He and Theresia Frank were married 31 July 1865 in Salbnuss, Mahren, Austria where Anton was a miller. His siblings were: Karl Boromej Jilg who came to America and lived in Barton County, Kansas; Joseph, whose whereabouts is unknown; Florian Jilg also lived in Barton County, Kansas; and Maria Jilg Meyer(Henry J.) lived in Barton County, Kansas.
Anton, wife Theresa Frank, and several of their children Theresa, Maria , Amalie, Anton, Wilhelmina, Josepha, and Hedwig were born in Austria. Josepha died in 1873 in Austria. They came to America in 1874 settling first in Polk or Platte County near Columbus, Nebraska. In about 1880, the family came to Section 5 of Sartoria Township, Buffalo County where they homesteaded.
Charley "Carl" was probably born near Columbus while Richard, Otto, and Florian joined the family in Buffalo County.
Anton Jilg Sr. is buried on his farm in Section 5 in a small family burial plot.
