DARLINGTON, SC - James David Blackmon, age 85, of the Mechanicsville community, died Thursday, September 15 at MUSC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, September 17 in Mechanicsville Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery, directed by Belk funeral Home. Born July 24, 1926 in Darlington County, he was the son of the late Marion Levi Blackmon and the late Agnes Henrietta Fountain Blackmon.

David faithfully served his country in the Unites States Navy during World War II aboard the USS CORE. Mr. Blackmon worked most of his life as a supervisor at Stone Container, but also worked with heavy equipment in bridge construction and rigging.

He was an avid and knowledgeable fisherman and hunter. David was a member of St. David's Lodge 72,the COOTS club and Mechanicsville Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Jennie M. Norwood Blackmon, two sons, James D. Blackmon, Jr., Roy A. (Maggie) Blackmon, four grandchildren: Daniel and Joshua Blackmon, Royce and Rivers Blackmon, a step-son, J.D. Norwood, several step-grandchildren, and a brother, Jerry (Della) Blackmon of Moncks Corner and a special friend, Frank Helms.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Craft Blackmon, sisters: Emma Gertrude Driggers, Mary Agnes Altman and an infant brother.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at Belk Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Mechanicsville Baptist Church, 2364 Cashua Ferry Road, Darlington, SC 29532.
