Esther Ellen Beachy, 88, of Kalona died Thursday, December 13, 2007 in Pleasantview Home, Kalona, following a brief illness.
Services were Monday, December 17, in Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church, Kalona, with pastors Floyd Helmuth, Floyd Yutzy and David L. Yoder officiating. Burial was in Fairview Mennonite Cemetery.
Born May 27, 1919 in Sherwood, Ohio, she was the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Beachy) Beachy. Her family moved to Kokomo, Indiana in 1920, where Miss Beachy lived until she moved to Kalona in 1941. In 1954 she moved to Sarasota, Florida, returning to Kalona in 1992.
Miss Beachy worked for many years as a housekeeper. She was a member of Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church. Miss Beachy had an interest in mission work and served one year in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico and did voluntary service in Glendive, Montana.
She enjoyed Bible prophecy and reading.
Survivors include eight brothers and sisters, Floyd and wife Mattie Beachy of Kalona, Mary and husband Mose Gingerich of Kalona, Moses Beachy of Goshen, Indiana, Verna and husband David L. Yoder of Kalona, Alvin and wife Edna Beachy of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bertha Beachy of Goshen, Wilma and husband Ray Gingerich of Harrisonburg, Virginia and Clara and husband Edwin Yoder of Harrisonburg; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Fannie Miller; a bother-in-law, Ora Miller; a sister-in-law, Ada Beachy; and three nephews.
