Earl M. Barley, 102, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at St. Anne's Retirement Community.

He was the husband of Della B. Hess Barley, who passed away on January 6, 1995 and also the late Mabel L. Barley.

He was born in Manor Twp., son of the late Frank N. and Sara Miller Barley.

Earl started out working in the Stehle Silk Mill for 18 years before turning to a farm.

He raised his family on a 150-acre farm that he and his wife Della owned and operated.

He was the oldest member of Stehman Memorial United Methodist Church; a member and past president of the Washington Boro Lions Club; he retired as a volunteer from Lancaster General Hospital with over 10,000 hours; he received two awards for volunteering with the American Red Cross; also did volunteer work at Conestoga View and Whitehall Nursing Home and was a goodwill ambassador with the Friendship Force and the People to People Program, having traveled throughout the world.

He is survived by four sons: James R. (Gere) Barley; John M. (Jackie) Barley; Earl M., Jr. (Blanche) Barley and Henry F. (Marsha) Barley. Five daughters: Betty J. (Howard) Main; Alice M. (Eugene) Brady; Mary Ellen (Charles) Hank; Ruth N. Swisher and Emma M. (Ronald) Bitts. Twenty-six grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren. One brother: Abram (Arlene) Barley and one sister: Helen (Alvin) Duffey.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

The Barley Family would like to thank the staff at St. Anne's Retirement Community and Hospice of Lancaster County for the compassionate care shown to them.

The Funeral Service will be held at Stehman Memorial United Methodist Church, 485 Indian Run Road, Millersville, PA 17551 on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Helen L. Adams, officiating.

Interment in Masonville Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel of St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia on Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and also at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.
