Bennettsville- Rev. LeVerne Ard, age 74, the beloved husband of Peggy Jackson Ard, entered his Heavenly home on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 after a sudden illness.

Born in Williamsburg County, SC, on April 5, 1941, he was the son of the late Flemon Lanco Ard and Hattie Bell Port Ard. He was a former member of the SC Army National Guard, was formerly employed in the textile industry as a sewing machine mechanic and was a self-employed carpenter.

Rev. Ard served as a faithful Minister of the Gospel for 20 years. He along with his precious wife Peggy, served as the Pastor of the Bristow Free Will Baptist Church for the past 14 years where he also served as church pianist. Rev. Ard began Pastoring Bristow Free Will Baptist Church with a vision of building a new church fellowship building. In 2004, after many long hours of laboring and prayer, a brand new fellowship building was completed. Under Pastor Ard's leadership, many changes were made to the church. The church sanctuary was completely remodeled and new Sunday School rooms were added.

Rev. Ard's passion was preaching the Gospel and he never passed up an opportunity to share God's love with others. With so many needs in our community, he began a Lazarus fund that would be used to assist those in financial need.

His many hobbies included, fishing, watching birds from his front porch, riding motorcycles, and making those around him smile. He was a pillar in Marlboro County and will never be forgotten for his many acts of love and kindness.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy Jackson Ard of their home; a son, Keith Ard and wife Carolyn of Florence; a daughter, Sandy Ard Donaldson and husband Steve of Bennettsville; brothers, Herman Ard and wife Doris of Tennessee and Liston Ard and wife Rosie of Cheraw; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and by his loving church family.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Bristow Free Will Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery, directed by Burroughs & Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8P.M. on Friday, August 14, 2015 at the Bristow Free Will Baptist Church Fellowship Center.

Pastor Ard was preceded in death by his parents listed above; 2 sons, Wayne LeVerne Ard and Darren Wayne Ard; a daughter, Sharon Denise Ard McQuage; 2 brothers, Flemon Lanco Ard, Jr. and Flemon Ard; 2 sisters, Louise Ard Ethridge and Dorothy Ard McDonald; and by a great-grandson, Cameron Lane Ard.
