JAKE CLASSEN

Funeral services for Jake Classen, age 69, will be Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church. Rev. Garvie Schmidt will follow at the Lahoma Cemetery. Arrangements are made by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Jake was born October 9, 1935 in Meade, KS to Peter and Katherine Classen, being the middle of 13 brothers and sisters. He died Wednesday, August 4, 2005 at his home in Enid, OK.

Jake was a member of the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church and served God by example every day of his life. He loved to sing in the choir and men's quartet; he was known as the official Cubbies grandpa in the Awana program and stayed involved with all activities in the church family.

His school years were spent at Meade, KS graduating from Meade Bible Academy and later graduating from Goshen College, Goshen, IN, with a BA in agriculture. He served in the selective service as a surgery assistant in Detroit.

Jake met the love of his life, Marilyn Schneider at Tabor College and they were married August 9, 1957. They had 48 wonderful years together and raised three children, Kaylene, Kerry, and Kelvin on a farm near Lahoma. Jake had a registered Holstein dairy farm as well as wheat and hay. He spent most of his life in the construction business to assist his farming operation and was a very accomplished trim carpenter.

He was a member and president of the Lahoma School Board for many years and has served on numerous committees at the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church.

Jake worked at the United Methodist Church of Enid for nine years as head of maintenance and spent the last ten years as vice president of KC Electric assisting in day to day operations and also built the buildings of KC Mini Storage. His warm smile and attention to detail will be sorely missed.

Jake was known all over the town as the man in the white hard hat, surviving a major head injury in the early 80's. His late brother Hal gave him the hard hat and he wore it religiously. Jake loved to entertain children, especially is grandkids, finding time to play whatever they wanted.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of the home; daughter Kaylene Toelle, her husband Dave and son Davie of Enid; two sons Kerry Classen and wife Jen and son Nicholas of Kansas City, KS and Kelvin Classen and wife Mary; and two daughters Syndi and Conner and two sons Bradly and Michael of Enid.

The family has designated memorials be directed to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Enid Mennonite Brethern Church music ministries in custody of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Remembrances may be made to the Classen family at www.ladusauevans.com.
