"Alan Barber, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Barber, died at his home in Independence, Mo., last Monday night, November 12th, at 9:35 o'clock.
Arlan had been sick for about three weeks with typhoid fever. A few days ago pneumonia developed which claimed him within a short time.
The body was brought to the F. C. Barber home, west of Skidmore, last night and funeral services were held this afternoon at the Burr Oak church, in charge of the Rev. C. H. Sauceman, assisted by Rev. D. G. MacDougal. Burial was in the Burr Oak cemetery.
Arlan was nine years, seven months and sixteen days old and had lived on a farm west of Skidmore all of his life until last March when his parents moved to Independence, Mo. He was well liked by all the children and had made friends with many of his play mates during his short time in his new home. Besides his parents, he is survived by a five-year old brother, Jack.
Mr. F. C. Barber went to Independence last Friday to be with his grandson, and returned yesterday morning to make arrangements for burial.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Barber have the sympathy of Skidmore and vicinity in this time of sorrow.."
