Daily Appeal, February 21, 1895, Pg. 1 (Excerpt from "Brownsville Happenings") Our little town was startled by the sad news of the death of Mrs. Caroline B. Brown, that happened on the 10th, at 3 o'clock. She had arisen and dressed herself, ate a hearty breakfast and apparently felt well. At noon she had a chill. A messenger was dispatched to Forbestown for the physician and on his arrival she was dead. Caroline B. Brown was born in Holowell, Maine, April 1817, making her at the time of her death, 78 years of age. She came to California in the fall of 1862 with her son and daughter. Her daughter departed this life a little over a year ago. She was followed by her husband, Thomas Lockwood, in less than a year. In less than two years death has visited that home and robbed it of all except one son and grandson who are left to mourn their loss. Mrs. Brown was a lady held in high esteem by all who knew her. She had many friends. She was laid to rest in the Foss cemetery the afternoon of the 12th, Messrs. Twogood, Packard, Foss, Adams, Crane and Albert acting as pall-bearers. Services were held at the house, also at the grave by the Rev. F. Hindson.
