WASECA COUNTY'S FIRST 1968 FATALITY —
Jack Amberg instantly killed in truck accident
Jack Amberg, 58, of Rt. 2, Janesville, met instant death in a one-car accident, which occurred two miles south of Janesville on County road 3 near what is known as Britton's corner late Tuesday afternoon, January 9.
Amberg, alone is his pick up truck, traveling south was enroute to his home near Alma City about 6 p.m. when he lost control of the truck which left the road, plunged into the ditch and hit a Hi-line pole, according to Waseca country Deputy Sheriff Merton Swartz.
His death resulted from a severe laceration of the neck which he sustained from the broken glass when his head was forced through the windshield by the sudden impact, according to County Corner Dr. Norman of Waseca who was called to the scene. Deputy Sheriff Swartz stated there was only minor damage to the truck which caused him to believe Amberg was traveling at a slow rate of speed.
Funeral services are pending at the Arnoldt Funeral Home at Janesville.
John Peter Amberg, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Amberg was born on June 21, 1909 in Alma City, Waseca County.
On November 20, 1943, he was united in marriage to Luella Roemhildt of Elysian at the St. Ann's Catholic Church parsonage in Janesville.
They have resided at their present home on Rt 2, Janesville since their marriage. Mr. Amberg had been engaged in the farm drainage business all of his lifetime.
Surviving to mourn his sudden passing are his wife and three brothers, Phillip who has made his home with the deceased, Frank and Anthony of rural Janesville. There are no children. One sister, Helena and one brother Joseph preceded him in death.
This is Waseca County's first traffic fatality in 1968.

SERVICES HELD FRIDAY FOR JACK AMBERG, ACCIDENT VICTIM
Funeral services were held Friday morning at 10 A. M. at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Janesville for John Amberg, 59, of Route 2, Janesville who was fatally injured in a truck accident late Tuesday afternoon, January 9. The Rev. Father W. D. Sullivan officiated. Interment was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian.
Pallbearers were Wayne C. Roemhildt, Duane D. Roemhildt, Frank Amberg, Jr., Herman Roeker, Lowell Wobschall and George R. Strunk.
The accident occurred on County road 3, two and one-half miles south of Janesville when Amberg was driving a pick up truck enroute to his home at Alma City when the truck left the road, hit a high line pole. His death resulted from a severe laceration of the neck that he sustained in the mishap.
A brother of Amberg's was killed in a gravel truck on this same road about three years ago.
