OXFORD — Memorial service for long time Oxford educator, Dr. Marian Alice "Mally" Moody, of Oxford, Ala., who passed away April 3, 2009 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Anniston, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church. The Reverend Lee F. Shafer will officiate and interment of her ashes will follow there on the church grounds. Her family will receive friends at the church parlor one hour prior to the service. Miller Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge. Mally's life was centered on a commitment to her faith, her family and friends and a passion to serve her community. She will be fondly remembered by the many students she taught in her 30 years as an educator within the Oxford School System. In addition, Mally served Oxford School Board for seven years. She was an active member of Altrusa International and Grace Episcopal Church. She also served on the Oxford Park and Recreation Board for over 20 years. Mally received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and then received a Master's degree and A.A. in mathematics from Jacksonville State University as well as a doctorate from Auburn University. Her skills as an educator were admired by many. She has several former students who have chosen to teach and use Mally as a mentor. She was recognized with the Presidential Award of Excellence in Mathematics and represented the State of Alabama at a White House reception with the President and first-lady. Dr. Moody was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Donald E. Hall of Bremen, Maine and her mother, Willetta Herrick Hall of Rangeley, Maine. Dr. Moody is survived by her husband, Jerry O. Moody, of Oxford, son, Jimmy Long, daughter-in-law, Felicia Long and two grandsons, Trey and Jared Long, all of Birmingham; brother, Don Hall of Maine; sister, Janice Hall Fields of Massachusetts, and her father's wife, Nancy Terrell Hall of Bremen, Maine. She also has several dearly loved nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her greatly. Mally remained cheerful and strong through recent illness. Mally has asked that, in lieu of flowers, to remember her through a donation to the Oxford City Schools Education Foundation P.O. BOX 7261 Oxford, Ala. 36203.
