Wilhelmina Nielsen was born in Denmark March 22, 1856 and was united in marriage to Peter Arp in 1882. She departed this life at the family home 5 miles southwest of Mason City on Wednesday, December 2, 1914, aged 58 years, 8 months, 11 days.
The family removed from their native land in 1886 direct to Custer county settling on a homestead in the vicinity where she died.
Mrs. Arp had been an invalid for many years and was denied the pleasure of association and mingle with friends and relatives the later years of her life. She was a woman devoted to her home and family and raised five sturdy sons and one daughter, all of whom, besides the husband and father, were present at the last sad rites.
The deceased was a life-long member of the Danish Lutheran church and found much solace and comfort in a strict adherence to its teachings.
Mrs. Arp was a highly respected in the neighborhood where she lived so long. The hospitality of her home was always extended to all neighbors and friends. She was known as a loving wife and mother, a good neighbor and a devout christian, whose death is mourned by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance.
The sons are Claus H. of Minden; Hans G., Niels, Oscar of Mason City, and Anton, of Miller and the daughter, Mrs. Bertha Sorensen, of Mason City.
The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in their hour of sorrow. The funeral was held from the Danish Lutheran church on the Basin Thursday, Dec. 3, and was one of the largest ever held there.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. E. Hansen, pastor, and burial had in the churchyard.
