Phillip Braden passed away at the Geneva General hospital at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, March 6, 1949, after an illness of two weeks and four days. He was 80 year, 1 month, and 23 days of age.
Mr. Braden was born in Ohio, Ill., January 13, 1869. His parents, Phillip and Klara Braden, had come to this country previously from Germany. When Phillip was a small boy, his folks homesteaded near Exeter, Fillmore County, Nebraska. This county continued to be his home for seventy-three years.
January 25, 1901 (Anna's obit. reads 1900) he was united in marriage to Anna Kohler at St. Wenceslaus church in Milligan. The first year of their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Braden made their home near Burress. They then moved to a farm eight miles east of Geneva, which was their home until Mrs. Braden's passing in 1940. Mr Braden then retired and moved to Geneva, which had been his home since.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Braden. One child and his wife preceded Mr. Braden in death. The surviving children are Mrs. Frank Steinacher; Mrs. William Hasenkamp, Mrs. Henry Lentfer; Raymon, Leo, and Tom of Geneva. There are also five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Spohn; four nephews, four nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Braden was well known throughout the county and had many friends who will miss his cheerful smile and helping hand. He has left this earth for a better place beyond.
