Hurshell L. "Junior" Barnes, Jr., 61, Union Star, died Aug. 22, 2003, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Barnes was born Nov. 4, 1941, in St. Joseph and lived in Kansas City before moving to Union Star over 20 years ago.
He was a truck driver and farmer. He was a Christian and a former member of the Eagles Lodge of St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly, in 1974; his parents, Hurshell Barnes, in 1973 and Hazel Barnes, in 1981; a brother, Robert Barnes and a sister, Anna Mae Norton.
Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Karen, of the home. They were married on Dec. 23, 1987 at Savannah. Additional survivors include four sons, Hurshell Barnes, III, of Spickard; Johnny Ray Barnes, St. Joseph; Barry Brent Barnes, Kansas City and Robert Earl Barnes of California; a daughter, Carrie Jo Loveland of Grandview; two brothers, Billy Barnes of Kentucky and George Voorhes of Tampa, FL.; five sisters, Betty Newman, of Springfield; Mary Kennicutt, Santa Fe Springs, CA.; Barbara Brickey, Lone Jack; Hazel Roberts, Overland Park, KS. and Bonnie McQuillen, Independence; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Aug. 25 at the Rupp Chapel in St. Joseph. Interment was in the Flag Springs cemetery,
