John J. Bergan, 318 W. Main St. Girardville, died unexpectedly on Sunday in Atlantic City, N.J. Born in Heckscherville he was a son of the late John and Jane Bergan. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Bergan was retired from the dietary department of Ashland State General Hospital, now Ashland Regional Medical Center, Fountain Springs. He resided for the last 15 years at the residence of Betty Burke. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church Girardville and the Minersville American Legion, and a former member of St Kieran's Church Heckscherville. Preceding him in death were his wife, the former Evelyn Mc Cord in 1961,three sisters, Rose Ann Kennedy, Genevieve Brady and Mary Bergan. Surviving are two sons; John, Boyertown and Robert, Minersville; three sisters Rita Rizzardi, Minersville, Bernadette Mc Nally, Teaberry Hill Minersville, and Elizabeth Heffner, Ashland, three grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Robert M. McDonald Funeral Home Girardville. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Josephs Church .Rev Francis Gillespie will officiate .Interment in St. Kieran's Cemetery.
