OCALA, Fla. - Dr Eldred E. "Doc" Bloodworth, formerly of Rutland, Vt., passed away May 14, 2014, in Ocala, Florida.
He was born Oct 31, 1921, in Gordon, Georgia, to Julia Kent Brown and John Bryant Bloodworth. Eldred and his siblings were raised in the Masonic Home in Macon, GA, after the death of his father when he was five years old.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Astoria, a heavy cruiser that was sunk in the Battle of Savo Island in August of 1942. He remained in the US Naval Reserves, retiring with the rank of Lt. Commander.
After the war, Doc met Elaine Smith of Stowe, Vt. They married in August of 1947. Doc attended the State University of New York and Tufts University Dental School, graduating with a degree in Dental Medicine.
He subsequently opened a dental practice in Rutland, from which he retired in 1978. Doc then moved to Naples, Fla. In March 1989, he married Eva Omar Karpinski of Naples.
Dr. Bloodworth is survived by his wife, Eva, his four children from his first marriage, Peter Bloodworth (Cheryl) of Brandon, Vt., Arlen Bloodworth of Brandon, Vt., Sylvia Wallett (David) of Rutland, Vt., John B. Seaton (Cathy) of Palm Coast, Fla., his grandchildren, Nicholas Seaton, Ethan Wallett, Andrew Wallett and Katherine Seaton; his sister, Mary Geraldine Sullivan of Macon, Ga., and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four stepdaughters, Diane Karpinski Etienne of Naples, Fla., Lauren Mueller Schroder of Murphy, NC, Caroline Karpinski of Atlanta, Ga., and Kathy Grunwald of Ocala, Fla., and step-grandsons, Nicholas and Tyler Etienne, and George Mueller, all of Florida.
He was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, his first wife, Elaine, his parents, and seven brothers.
Doc was a member of the Masons and Shrine, and was a Past Potentate of the Cairo Temple in Rutland, Vt.
He always had a garden, a beloved dog or two, and was always there whenever he was needed. We will miss his wisdom, advice, support and, foremost, his love.
