BONO -- Gertrue Adeline Phillips Broadaway, 85, of Bono died Wednesday, Jan. 19, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born at El Paso, Ark., she was a 1953 graduate of then-Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway and was a retired schoolteacher, having taught at schools in Floyd, McRae, Earle and Bono. She was a member of the Craighead County Retired Teachers Association and Herman Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, John Broadaway of Bono; a daughter, Eva Broadaway Freer of Knoxville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Ellen Ruth Freer of Knoxville and Anna Wren Broadaway and Sarah Taylor Broadaway, both of Bono.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford L. Broadaway, three brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Herman Missionary Baptist Church, with Gib Cole and Bill Thornton officiating. Burial will follow in Old Enterprise Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Terrell Carr, Kenny Broadaway, Maurice Watkins, Gaylon Caples, Robbie Cline, Terry Browning, Stacy Broadaway, Eddie Coleman, Denny Caples and Jerry Broadaway.

Honorary pallbearers will include her nephews and members of the Craighead County Retired Teachers Association.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the church.
