Mr. Jacob Wayne Black, 70, died Monday, January 14, 2008 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

He was a member of Mary's Grove United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer. He was a veteran truck driver for Carolina Freight Carriers, Inc. for 32 years. He was awarded the NC Truck Driver of the Year award in 1994. Prior to Carolina Freight he drove for AV Dedmon Trucking in Shelby, NC for six years. He had an avid love for his work.

He and his wife, Perline Putnam Black, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in November, 2007. Their marriage was blessed with two beautiful daughters.

He was a member of the Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505, Scottish Rite Bodies and the Oasis Shrine Temple of Charlotte, and also the Cherryville Shrine Club. He served as master of the Cherryville Lodge in 2003 and dearly cherished the fellowship of the members.
He is survived by his wife, Perline Putnam Black; his mother and step-father, Loree Black Holcombe and Bud of Townsville, SC; his daughters, Debra Black Snow of Charleston, SC and Beverly Black Bieker of Kings Mountain, NC; his brother, Forrest Black of Charlotte, NC; his sister, Rebekah Burgess of Fort Mill, SC; his beloved grandchildren, Taylor Gettys, Katherine Bieker, Keith and Kelli Snow.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob A. Black and his brother, Donald Black.

The family is very grateful for the care and compassion he received from the fifth floor nursing staff and the doctors at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary's Grove United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain, NC with Dr. Greg Gordon, Rev. Ron Lytle and Rev. Renee Bingham officiating. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes before the service.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00pm at Stamey~Cherryville Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Mary's Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Masonic Rites.

Memorials may be made to Marys Grove United Methodist Church, 119 Oak Leaf Dr., Kings Mountain, NC 28086."
