Michael (Julie) Banks of Proctor is mourning the death of his mother, Mary Ann Banks. The Silver Bay resident died Wed., Mar. 16, 2005 in Edinburg, Texas surrounded by her family. She was 72.

She was born in Pulaski, Wis. to Joseph and Anna (Giese) Popelka. She grew up in Hayward, Wis., graduating from Hayward High School in 1951. She married Robert “Ted” Banks Nov. 3, 1951 and moved to Silver Bay in 1956. She managed the Mariner Motel and the KOA Campground in Silver Bay. She also served on The Lake County Home Study Groups Board, The Bay Area Historical Society Board and The Whole Foods Store Board. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Silver Bay and St. Ann’s Circle.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

She is also survived by her husband Robert “Ted”, children JoAnn Banks of Sartell, Donna (Tom) Kacmarcik of Wis., John (Jean) of Mt. Iron, Kenneth (Jean) of Wis., Patricia (David) Gilson of Fla., Anthony of Duluth, Duane (Julie) of Two Harbors, brothers and sisters Roger (Barbara) Popelka of Wis., Jodell (William) Daniels of Kan., Helen (Quentin) Reprecht of Wis., Joseph (Cathy) Popelka of Wis. and Robert (Paula Stuettgen) Popelka of Eau Claire, 16 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

A memorial mass will be held Sat., June 11, 2005 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay, followed by a Celebration of Life in the Silver Bay Re-Union Hall. Burial will be at Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery, Beaver Bay Township.
