Tom Johnson, age 49, of Staples, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006, at the Lakewood Hospital in Staples. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 6, 2006, at 9 a.m. at Christian Missionary and Alliance Church in Staples with the Rev. Mike Picconatto officiating. Burial will be in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery at Silver Bay at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Christian Missionary and Alliance Church in Staples and an hour prior to services on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Tom Johnson is survived by his wife, Carol; three daughters, Naomi Johnson, of Purcellville, Va., Laura and Anna Johnson, at home; only son, Warren Johnson, U.S. Army; his father, Warren Johnson, of Staples; one sister, Kathleen Haiden, of Minneapolis; and one brother, Philip Johnson, of Long Beach, Calif. He was preceded in death by his mother. Tom was born on Nov. 13, 1956, in Duluth, son of Warren and Anna (MacPherson) Johnson. He graduated from Silver Bay High School and then Staples Technical Institute in machine shop. He worked for Arctic Enterprises in Thief River Falls and was united in marriage to Carol Fugleberg on May 9, 1981, in Roseau. They moved to Osseo, Minn., and then to Staples in 1991, where they moved their business, Great Lakes Tool Co. He was a member of Staples Christian Missionary and Alliance Church and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed shooting firearms, collecting agates, hunting, fishing for brook trout, building steam engines, collecting Allis Chalmers tractors and living life to its fullest. Services are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
