Suggested edit: Mrs. Ila S. Bowen Brown, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, at The Oaks At Forsyth. She was born May 30, 1912, to Wyatt W. and Hessie Bennett Southern in Stokes County. She was member of Becks Baptist Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnie Roscoe Brown; her parents; and a sister, Viola S. Cromer. She is survived by two sons, Grady O. Bowen (Yoskiko) of Winston-Salem and Rupert W. Bowen (Cynthia) of Allisonia, Va.; three grandchildren, Gary Bowen, Suzanne Bowen and Scott Bowen (Caroline); a great-grandchild, Leslie Bowen; three sisters, Nancy Opal Dobbins of Walnut Cove and Lucille Throckmorton and Olene S. Booth, both of Winston-Salem; a brother, Dennis O. Southern of Clemmons; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Southern of Clemmons. She had several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Becks Baptist Church by the Rev. Paul Wonders and Dr. Karl R. Minor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Becks Baptist Church Quilting Ministry, 5505 Becks Baptist Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel is serving the family.
