Confederate veteran with formal rank of 1st Lieutenant. Enlisted on July 14, 1862, at Tyner's Station, Hamilton County, Tennessee; unit: 2nd Company K, 1st CSA Cavalry. Listed on muster roll as J.C. Anderson. Paroled on May 3, 1865, at Charlotte, North Carolina. After the war, he was a tunnel builder and engineer. Served as Chief Engineer for the East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Railroad (later part of the Southern Railroad). Died at home on the Cleveland Pike at the age of 86 years.
