ROCK HILL -- Mr. Ernest "Yank" Cherry Jr., 71, of 211 Booker Washington St. died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Piedmont Medical Center. The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Pineville AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Dr. Eugene Goodwin officiating, and by Bishop B.R. Wilson, Pastor Gary Knox and the Revs. Andrew Rollinson and Archie Stover officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. A native of Fairfield County, Mr. Cherry was a son of the late Ernest Cherry Sr. and Margaret Walker Cherry. He attended York County schools and worked as a backhoe operator. He was a member of Pineville AME Zion Church, where he was a member of the hymn choir, and was a member of the AP&B society and Rose of Sharon Lodge 156. Surviving are his wife, Carrie Lee Cherry; his son, Ernest James Cherry of Rock Hill; two daughters, Gloria Cherry Meeks and Deloris Cherry, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Pastor Regina Ann Cherry of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Parker Funeral Home is in charge.
