George J. Blevins of Hartfield, died peacefully in his home with family by his side.

He was born July 11, 1922 in Big Stone Gap, Va.

He was a member of Lower United Methodist Church, Norview Masonic Lodge and the Fleet Reserve. George was a Navy Veteran of WWII and was a Japanese POW captured on Corregidor. He was interned at several POW camps for the duration of the war. He retired as a CPO after 22 years of honorable service to his country in 1961. He was the recipient of 11 service medals, including the Bronze Star. He retired from Norfolk Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company after 20 years of employment.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Corine Carnes Blevins; daughters, Corine Lazaro and her husband, Dr. Richard Lazaro of New Mexico and Patricia Blevins Crabtree and her husband, Linton Crabtree of Hartfield, Va.; grandchildren, Eric Reeves, Gretchen Reeves, Korinne Crabtree Anderson and Charles Everett Ashton Crabtree; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, one brother and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2011, at Lower United Methodist Church, Hartfield.

Interment church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Lower United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 98, Hartfield, Va., 23071. Arrangements by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda.
