Newson(sic) L. Barnes
Gloucester - Newson L. Barnes, 61, died suddenly at his home early Sunday morning. Mr. Barnes, an electrician, appeared to be in his usual good health when he retired at a late hour Saturday night but was stricken with a heart attack about 2:30 a.m. and died within a few minutes.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Bridges Barnes, of Gloucester; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Davenport, of Cresswell(sic), N.C.; Mrs. Luther Basnight, of Plymouth, N.C.; and Mrs. Willie Oliver, of Roper, N.C.; and two brothers, Edgar Barnes, of Cresswell, N.C. and Richard Barnes, of Norfolk.
Funeral rites were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the grave at Bellamy's Methodist Church Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Raymond Cardwell. Active pallbearers were Gene Robins, Bob Selden, Julian C. Corbell, Dr. J. M. Wiatt, John Gray and Martin S. Kerns.
