Obituary from the Clarion Democrat, July 21, 1932
An aged and respected citizen, Elijah Aites, passed away at a late hour last Tuesday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Phoebe Anderson, with whom he has made his home the past nine months. Death was due to old age. Mr. Aites was born at Dutch Hill 86 years ago and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Aites. He was united in marriage to Miss Susanna Dunkle who preceded him in death seventeen years ago. To this union twelve children were born, three preceding him in death, Lorenzo, Jerry, and an infant son. He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Margaret Weaver, Rimersburg; Mrs. Lizzie Downey, Sligo; Peter Aites, Huey; Mrs. Anderson, Sligo; Mrs. Jane Barnhart, Ohio; Mrs. Nancy Alders, Sligo; Mrs. Priscilla Altmire, Putneyville; Harry Aites, Butler county, and Barbara Stager, who could not be located. Also by the following brothers and sisters, Harry Aites and Mrs. Kate Waterson of Oil City; Mrs. Lizzie Hazlett, near Oil City; Elmer Aites, Pittsburgh; Alice Aites, of New Castle and Tillie Alates, address not known, and Mrs. Ida Krotchman, Braddock, Pa. Funeral services were conducted at the Anderson home Friday afternoon by Rev. Howarth, and interment was made in the Callensburg cemetery. Many relatives and friends from out of town attended the funeral.
