Kathryn M. “Kay” Abel, 90, of Beallsville, died Friday July 15, 2011 in the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 6, 1920 near Clarington, Ohio, a daughter of the late Roy D. and Laura E. Bey Miller, Sr.K Kathryn was a graduate of Wheeling Beauty School and worked as a beautician at Juanita’s Beauty Shop in Woodsfield in the early 1940’s.

For decades, she had been a loving wife, mother sister, aunt, and friend to many.

She is survived by her son, a brother and a sister-in-law and three generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, Fred, only 68 days earlier on May 8, 2011; also by a brother Roy Miller, Jr.

Kathryn had many interests and hobbies including flower gardening, bird watching, traveling, cooking, arts and crafts--especially her prized and coveted Brazilian-embroidered ornaments.

She was an active member of her church family at Beallsville United Methodist Church where she faithfully taught Sunday school for forty years, participated in community outreach ministries with the United Methodist Women and volunteered in other church roles.

On May 6, 2011, Kathryn was honored as a 65 year dedicated member of the Beallsville Chapter # 24 Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Rolling Hills Ruritan Club and the Philodendron Twig in their mission to support the healing services provided by Barnesville Hospital.

Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM with her beloved former pastor, Tina Gallaher officiating.

Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. Eastern Star services will be conducted Monday evening at 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Because The Fuller Center for Housing (a Christian housing ministry making simple decent housing possible, where her son serves on the International Board of Directors), and her church were important to her, contributions may be sent in Kathryn’s memory to The Fuller Center for Housing at P.O. Box 523 Americus, GA 31709 (or online at www.fullercenter.org) or to the Beallsville United Methodist Church, PO Box 61, Beallsville, Ohio 43716.
