Funeral service for Erline Waddell Ballew, 87, will be Friday, March 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at New Center Baptist Church with Bro. Ben Bates and Bro. Alfred Palmer, Jr. officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ballew died on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Decatur General Hospital . She was born November 24, 1924, in Morgan County to Lee Polk Waddell and Mollie Ann (Bodley) Waddell. Mrs. Ballew graduated from Morgan County High School in 1943 and was a faithful member of the New Center Baptist Church , where she taught Sunday School for many years. She worked at Hartselle Medical Center after her children were in school and retired after 22 years.
She was a member of the Morgan County Genealogical Society, United Society of the Daughters of the Confederacy and volunteered endless hours at the Archives in Decatur. She authored family history books on the Waddell, Johnson, Bodley, Ballew and Gresham families and contributed numerous articles to the Heritage of Morgan County; published in 1998. She loved spending time in her flower gardens and with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
She was preceeded in death by her husband: Seth McCallen Ballew, Sr., four brothers; John, Claude, Albert and Oscar Waddell, and six sisters: Maude Pruitt, Lula Rhoades, Naomia Thomas, Bessie Bolan, Katie Hudson and Eunice Waugh.
Survivors include: Three Sons: Seth Ballew, Jr. (Ann), Hartselle, AL, David Ballew, Sr. (Debbie), Eva, AL, Paul Ballew, (Dana), Lawton, OK; three Daughters: Maxine Ballew Franklin, Danville, AL, Brenda Ballew McMinemon (Dale), Hartselle, AL, Kathy Ballew Ray (Chuck), Hartselle, AL; One Brother William Waddell, Jr., Falkville, AL; One Sister Hattie Prince, Hartselle, AL; 12 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Michael Ballew, Jeff McMinemon, Patrick Ray, William Ballew, Chris Ballew, Mark Sapp, Kevin Beal and David Ballew, Jr.
