RITES THURSDAY [November 27, 1940] FOR J.E. BOWEN-Tigrett Gin Manager Dies Suddenly At His Home At Stokes Wednesday-

Funeral rites for John E. Bowen, about 50, well known Dyer county [TN] resident and cotton gin manager who died suddenly
of a heart attack at his home in the Stokes community, near Tigrett, early yesterday afternoon, were held at two o'clock

this afternoon. Mr. Bowen, manager of the Churchill Ginning Company ginnery for G.W. Smitheal of Dyersburg, was at home
for lunch when he was stricken suddenly.

Born and reared in the Tigrett community, he was a life long resident of Dyer county, and an esteemed citizen.

He managed a gin at Friendship [TN] for one or two seasons, but returned to the Tigrett Gin two years ago.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lyrene TARRANT Bowen; a son, Thomas Bowen and a daughter, Frances Bowen.

He also is survived by his father, Hiram Bowen, resident of the Tigrett community.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, and funeral services this afternoon were conducted by A.O. Bolley,
minister.
