Meloche Mitchell was born in Indian Territory about 1889. She was a member of the Seminole tribe and a life-long resident of what eventually became known as Seminole county. Her father’s name was Michale and mother was Fanny, they have no recorded last time. Her family took on a form of their father’s name as their last name. She had one brother, Legus and one ½ brother, William; two sisters: Liddy and Selmah; and one ½ sister, Sally.

She married Josie Fixico in 1918 and they had three sons but only one survived childhood, Edmond Smith Fixico. Edmond married Maggie Tanyan and lived with Josie and Meloche and they helped raise their grandchildren. Meloche’s date of death is not known but it was in the early 1950’s. She was a member of Snake Creek Indian Baptist Church and is buried in the church cemetery.
