Lucy Grace Calhoun Avery, was a native of Richmond County, NC in Hamlet, NC leaving when she was six weeks old to grow up in Springfield before moving to Swainsboro. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Swainsboro and a member of the John R. Flanders Sunday School Class. She was a sales clerk with Dolores and Woody Shops in Swainsboro.
Mrs. Avery was preceded in death by her husband, William Austin Avery; her parents, Lewis and Mary Sue Futrill Calhoun; brothers, Willie James Calhoun, and Mitchell Calhoun, and sister, Antoinette "Toni" Freeman.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine A. Cole and Llewelyn A. Lewis; one son and daughter-in-law: Cal and Marisue Avery; one sister, Teresa Weaver; nine grandchildren 21 great-grandchildren, one foster grand daughter; four foster great-grandchildren.
