(Pryor's grave marker has vanished over time and the exact location of his grave in this cemetery is unknown)
Pryor was the son of John and Hester Clark Choate and the husband of Amanda Bullock (1843-1927).
Pryor was born and raised in southwestern Louisiana and moved to Texas when a young man. During the War for Southern Independence Pryor Holston Choate served in the CSA, 5th Texas Inf., Co.F (mustered at Chambers Co. on 9 June 1861). This unit, known as Hood's Texas Brigade, served under General Robert E. Lee throughout the war. Pryor suffered a severe wound in the side during the "Battle of the Wilderness", 6 May 1864, in Virginia. A "miniball" had lodged in his liver and could not be removed. His name appears on the casualty list published in the "Galveston Tri-weekly News" dated 18 July 1864. When he returned from the war in 1865 he married Amanda Bullock on 21 Dec 1865 in Jefferson County. Amanda was the sister-in-law of Thaddeus W. Bullock, Sr. Pryor and Thaddeus had served together in Hood's Texas Brigade throughout the civil war. Pryor pursued his occupation as a carpenter and started a family. Pryor and his family are listed in the 1870 federal census as living in Fayette Co., Tx. Sometime after 1870 the family moved to the community of Harrisburg which was at that time on the outskirts of Houston and Pryor's health continued to deteriorate. Pryor died while his family was still young probably as a result of complications from the wounds he received during the war.
Pryor and Amanda had four sons (Irvin, Henry, Pryor Jr., Marion Jackson) and two daughters (Lenora Alice, Ida Mae).

Tread lightly, 'tis a soldiers grave,A lonely, mossy mound; And yet to hearts like mine and thine It should be holy ground.Speak softly, let no careless laugh, No idle, thoughtless jest, Escape your lips where sweetly sleeps The hero in his rest. For him ...(Read more)
