This Cemetery is on what was the family homestead & where they had buried 4 children in 1 week during the horrible Diptheria outbreak. So later in life Michael C. O'Mahony her husband gave the land to his Catholic Church in Pipestone, Pipestone, MN., Her parents were Mathew & Bridget Griffice Muvahill. I don't know any more about the parents or their ancestors. She & her parents & siblings came to NY from Balliebunion, Kerry, Ireland in 1863. Some of her family members later moved to Pipestone co., MN also. ON 4/7/1863 she married Michael C. O'Mahoney (O'Mahony) in NY. After the Civil War they family moved to Chicago, IL. They lost everything but survived the great Chicago fire but some of the family had serious lung conditions. They had to move to the country so her husband became the 1st white man to settle in Burke Township MN. The settlers new government meetings wanted to file the papers & name it after him (O'Mahoney township) but asked them to call it Eire (after Ireland) as their 1st choice on the application & 2nd choice, he insisted that they honour a visiting Catholic priest, Father Burke. Later the family moved to Woodstock, Pipestone co., MN where they was active with what was happening in Pipestone co. at that time. In later years they raised 1 of their twin granddaughters & moved into the city of Pipestone from the farm which was to difficult to keep up in old age & poor health. They had the following children (I believe they had more who died younger):

Patrick O'Mahoney b. 5/28/1864 d. 9/6/1868

Katherine Elizabeth "Kate" O'Mahoney b. 11/24/1866 d. 10/28/1937 m. Charles Edwin Walling 10/28/1890 Woodstock. Pipestone, MN (she is the only child to survive childhood & the horrible Diptheria epidemic. She survived because even as a young child, she then knew what to look out for & in the middle of the night when her throat closed up she performed ON HER SELF as traiciotomy & cut open her throat w/ a pen knife & was able to breath, even though her throat has closed up. Later she was attended to my a Dr. But her quick work as you brave, & grief ridden young girl, is why I am here today. She is my great great grandmother. She is the only child to become an adult. And the only child to have any children. In fact she ended up having 6 children

Mary "Minnie" O'Mahoney b. 8/1/1869 d. 9/8/1883 Diptheria

Annie O'Mahoney b. 4/22/1871 d. 1871

William O'Mahoney b. 5/15/1878 d. 9/2/1883 Diptheria
