George William Ashby, son of Grover Ashby and Loudema (Metcalf) Ashby was born August 1, 1920 in Centerville, Iowa and passed from this life April 28, 2011 at Afton Care Center in Afton, Iowa at 90 years of age.
George was united in marriage to Lucille Thomas on June 2, 1940 in Unionville, Missouri, and eight children blessed this union. He was a World War II Army Air Corp Veteran.
George was a truck driver; he also worked as a logger, worked at National Steel and retired from Des Moines Asphalt. He enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the cars go by, fishing, and tormenting his grandchildren and great grandchldren. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. George enjoyed his family and loved his Bible.
Those relatives who preceded George in death were his parents; and his son, George Eddie Ashby.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Lucille Ashby of Afton; children, Peggy (Ed) Otto, Bob (Carol) Ashby, Steve Ashby, Terry (Carole) Ashby - all of Murray, Rick (Carol) Ashby of Truro, Doyle (Deb) Ashby of St. Charles, Jim (Dee) Ashby of Winterset; 27 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; brother, Grover Ashby of Arkansas; sister, Conda; other relatives and friends.
