Born August 16, 1920, in Fulton County, PA, he was the son of the late Ross and Madeline Sensel Barnhart.
He was a farmer. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Hancock as a carrier after 20 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force.
He was a member of and served on the vestry of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, Hancock.
He was a life member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, Hancock; a former member of Hancock Grange and Washington County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Cunningham Barnhart, Hancock, whom he married May 11, 1946; two daughters, Melinda B. Golden, Hancock and Stephanie B. Foy, Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Julia B. Lynn and Mary G. Barnhart, both of Hancock; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Alberta Barnhart; and two brothers, John Barnhart and Robert Barnhart Sr.
Services were held Saturday, February 27, at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, Hancock.
The Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. officiated. Burial was in Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Cemetery, Route 655 North of Hancock.
