Loran Clifton Grubbs, M.D., FACS, 90, passed away, Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at The Residency in Scottsbluff in Scotts Bluff County, NE. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at The Residency in Scottsbluff. A private graveside service will be held at Gabe Rock Cemetery in Banner County, NE. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place in accordance with Loran's wishes.

Dr. Loran C. Grubbs was born July 27, 1922 in a sod house in Banner County, NE son of Dallis Bernard and Vera Bell (Heintz) Grubbs. He was delivered by his grandmother, Mrs. John B. Heintz.
He attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse, situated on several sections of virgin prairie and graduated from Banner County High School in 1939. He then attended Scottsbluff Junior College for two years, followed by one year at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Dr. Grubbs was inducted into the U.S. Army in October 1944 and was medically discharged in December 1945. Upon his discharge he returned to the University of Nebraska, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in August of 1947. He was accepted to attend the University Of Nebraska College Of Medicine at Omaha, NE, graduating in 1950 as a Doctor of Medicine, followed by a one-year internship at St. Joseph Hospital, Sioux City, IA.
Dr. Grubbs married Mabel Irene Nevins in Sidney, MT on August 31, 1947.
Beginning in 1951 and for the next 10 years, Dr. Grubbs conducted a private general medical practice in Mitchell and Scottsbluff, NE. In 1961, he entered a residency program in otolaryngology and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. Upon completion of this residency in 1965, Dr. Grubbs returned to Scottsbluff to practice in his specialty.
Among the numerous awards and commendations received: Dr. Grubbs was certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology in 1965; elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology in 1966 and inducted into the American College of Surgeons in 1968.
Dr. Grubbs practiced medicine in Scottsbluff from 1965 until his retirement in 1987. During this time he served terms as President of the Medical Staff at both West Nebraska General Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, as well as the President of the Scottsbluff County Medical Society. He was a member of the Nebraska State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He was a charter member of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
Dr. and Mrs. Grubbs moved into The Residency in 1992.
Survivors include his children, Irene Burnett of Springfield, VA, Janet Burton of Raton, NM and Lowell Grubbs of Springfield, VA; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and his brother, Francis Grubbs of Harrisburg, NE.
Preceding Dr. Grubbs in death were his parents; wife, Mabel and sister, Barbara Morehead.
