Lyman Dean Bateman

Mr. Lyman Dean Bateman, age 80, of Brookport, IL, passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Aikins-Farmer Brookport Chapel with Bro. Kent Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Otterbein Cemetery.

Lyman owned and operated a garage and service station for many years. After retiring, he owned a farm and lived out his years doing the things that he loved very much. Lyman was a member of the Brookport Church of Christ. Sergeant Bateman served in the Korean War with the United States Air Force and will be buried with full military honors.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dona (Wooldridge) Bateman; 1 son, Lyman Ted Bateman and wife May of Caseyville, IL; 3 daughters, Marlene Ellis and husband Glen of Brookport; Yvonne Sweitzer and husband Ray of Caseyville, IL, Melody Maly and husband Jim of Caseyville; 11 grandchildren, Ted, Dustin, Ashley and Chad (Cory) Bateman; Kourtney and Kelcey Ellis, Joshua (Melissa), Matt and Luke Sweitzer, Krista (Josh) and Jimmy Maly; 3 great-grandchildren, Lisette, Canaan and Adele; and one sister, Estes DeJesus of Mount Vernon, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents Opal and Luther Bateman; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers.

Visitation will be held at the Aikins-Farmer Brookport Chapel from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30.
